Queen Carnival – The ruler of all the swamps and bayous in Louisiana, she leads her subjects from Nova Scotia on an odyssey to a new home after being run out by the rival pixies, the Canucks; She settles in an impenetrable part of the Manchac swamp just outside of New Orleans known as the Caddo. She possesses the Book of Life.


Dixie the Fiddle playing Cajun Pixie – The daughter of Queen Carnival; Protector of all residents in Pixie Parish. She’s a beautiful, fairy Cajun princess with luminous, gossamer wings that communicates through her fiddle playing. Her fiddle not only allows her to charm her audience with its magical tones but is also the source of wondrous powers that enable her to protect and care for the residents of Pixie Parish. She’s discovered by Yats and his Famous New Orleans Jazzland Band, whom she helps find their way back home.


Yats Yea-u-rite – Son of Matt and Lea Yea-u-rite and brother of Antoine Yea-u-rite; He graduated from St Augustine High School where he was voted the best trumpet player in the Marching One Hundred Band. He won several competitions with his trumpet playing. He is the founder of his Famous New Orleans Jazzland Band, the most beloved band in the city. He was born in the musically rich neighborhood of Treme and leads his bandmates on a quest to rebuild and save the soul of New Orleans after it is devastated by a storm.


Antoine “Tiptoe” Yea-u-rite – Brother of Yats Yea-u-rite. He is a talented clarinet player in the band who also performs sleight of hand tricks for tourists in the French Quarter. He earned his nickname because of his tapdancing abilities and from sneaking in late at night wearing his tap shoes after playing gigs, waking his mother, who would yell out, “Tiptoe, please!”


Mama Lea – Mother of Yats and Antoine “Tiptoe” Yea-u-rite; She is a beautiful, talented Creole chef who is affectionately known as Mama Lea. She is hands-down the best cook in the neighborhood. She is revered as the “Queen of Creole Cuisine.” She has a heart big enough to hold the world and assists Yats and the band in their effort to rebuild New Orleans after the storm.


Matt Bartholomew Yea-u-rite – Father of Yats and Antoine “Tiptoe” Yea-u-rite; He is the captain of the Steamboat Natchez and assists his family’s efforts to rebuild New Orleans.


Mario “Tubby” Galvez – The band’s portly tuba player; He grew up in mid-city New Orleans, and his parents own Galvez’s Heating & Plumbing in St. Bernard Parish. His grandfather, four times removed, was the first Spanish governor of Louisiana, General Bernardo de Galvez. He can hold a note longer than any tuba player this side of the Mississippi river, and when people hear him play, they often think it’s a steamboat on the river, blowing its stack.

Datz the Clown – The band’s bass drum playing clown; Datz joined the band after he ran away from a traveling circus when it visited New Orleans. When the Who Dat nation spotted him performing outside the St Louis Cathedral, they whispered under their breath, “Datz the clown, Datz the Clown!” so, he became known thereafter as “Datz the Clown.” He has a love for seafood and wears white shrimp boots and a red crab hat.


Tommy II Short Babtiste – The diminutive (he stands a whopping four-foot-tall), infamous trombone player from Creole Louisiana; He’s a musical prodigy that can play any instrument known to man. As a student at Bell City High, he earned a full scholarship to the Tulane School of Music, where he caught the attention of Yats and earned a place in his Famous New Orleans Jazzland Band.


Tujaques – A huge, protective, saxophone playing alligator that has a heavy Cajun accent (in the style of Troy Landry). He wears a red sash around his waist and a jaunty pirate hat that he won in a card game against the famous Jean Lafitte with a pair of jacks. He’s a lifelong friend of Dixie. After helping Dixie get Yats and the band back home, Tujaques becomes a member of Yats’ Famous New Orleans Jazzland Band.


Toulouse (the Manchac Box Turtle) – He’s a box turtle that lives in the Manchac swamp. He has big eyes and long eye lashes, with rounded features. He’s shy and bashful, has a crush on Dixie. He is saved by Yats and the band and warns them of all the dangers lurking along the shores of Manchac.


King Cotton (the Maniacal Snake) – King Cotton is a cigar smoking, cottonmouth water moccasin. He’s fat and black, looks like a gangster, and is hiding in cypress knees with his gang of undesirables, ready to pounce. He has piercing eyes and a viper-shaped head. He fancies himself the mafia boss of the Manchac swamp.


Colossomeaux (the Prehistoric Croc) – He is the last of his kind, the oldest living creature in Manchac; a prehistoric, primordial crocodile that is at least twenty five feet in length. He’s menacing and is the most feared creature in Manchac, and Tujaques’ nemesis.


Moxie the Mink – Moxie is a bit of a busybody that keeps an eye on the goings-on in the Manchac swamp. She’s sharp-tongued and sassy and is Dixie’s confidential informant.


Bazou (the Great Horned Owl) – Bazou is the all-knowing, all-seeing voice of wisdom that helps Yats navigate through the impenetrable area of the swamp known as the Caddo where the Cajun pixies live.


Pow Wow & His Wolf Pup, Shatta – A member of the local Indian tribe; With the assistance of his wolf pup, Shatta, he gathers the herbs and spices Dixie uses to make her Cajun Pixie Magic Seasoning.

The Ginny Woman – The Ginny Woman is a humorous, Creole, Voodoo, crystal ball-reading fortune teller (Tyler Perry style) who reunites Yats with his family.
